There are many myths when it comes to football players. Whether it’s about football players being “jocks”, having bad grades, being “cocky”,and a lot more. But it that’s not really the case at all. A lot of my friends are football players and they are literally some of the funniest and coolest people you will ever meet. If anything they are people that I would advise you to hang around because of the simple fact that all football players wanna get better.
So I here often that football players aren’t smart and don’t have good grades. Need I remind you that to get into D1,D2 you have to have above a 2.5 GPA and have at least a 21 on your ACT & D3 is even harder because they don’t give out athletic scholarships. But to be a college athlete isn’t easy and at my high school you had to have at least a C to play and we also had grade sheets. To even play college sports you had to atleast have a 2.3 GPA, so it isn’t like we can just breeze past all our classes with D,s and F,s.
Football players are called jocks and other things because of how much we lift or how much we train and other things we do. We lift in the weight room because in order to beat the opponent in front of you, you have to out play him not just physically but mentally as well. And honestly, people use the word “jock” wrong. People call anyone who plays football and wears a letterman a jock and its stupid. I know what they put in the movies that meathead football player dating a cheerleader that is the prettiest girl in school or whatever. But the actual definition of a “jock” is “an enthusiast or participant in a specified activity”. Which is basically saying a jock is someone who focuses on a specific thing very often.
The myth that all football players are cocky is also wrong. I know too many football players that are very humble. Tim Tebow is one of the greatest humbled athletes I know always giving thanks to God, another good one is Carson Wentz the QB for the Eagles. But in the bible philippians 4:13 says that “I can do all this through him who gives me strength”.And that is something a lot of football players believe in and play by. Another thing is a lot of people on my football team and on campbellsville as well have a lot of sportsmanship. And to me that isn’t being cocky but trying to make everyone in the game of football better.
Another myth is that football players aren’t sensitive. To me a lot of football players try to act tough for no reason all of the time. And sometimes it does get annoying but they are the first ones to pop off when something bad happens. That just proves how sensitive we actually are and I am very sensitive I am not gonna lie so I know that myth isn’t true. If you catch a football player after a loss or good win and they may have some tears in their eyes. That just goes to show how emotional athletes in general are. Sports or any hobby that interests you can make you either sensitive or emotional.
There’s a few myths about football players that don’t really make sense to me because it almost seems as if they just look at a football player an just assume he is this or that without actually getting to know us. I know a lot of females who won’t mess with football players because they “do females wrong” which in all honesty i’ve never understood why people put titles on certain people anyways but i’ve heard that we aren’t loyal and can’t keep a healthy relationship and I have also heard from my friends girlfriend that we don’t know how to treat women. That one was knew for me but I guess you learn something new everyday
To sum up these myths and things told by others of past experiences and things of that nature the myths are majority of the time not true. Most of them are made by females or people who have been done wrong by a football player. But there are so many things about football players, they do so many good things for the community like JJ Watt raised millions of dollars to help people and there are so many more charities and fundraisers ran by football players to help the US. So if you ever wondered what we did for anyone it’s more than just play football on the weekend.
People have often said that people who play the game of american football are genuinely dumb people. Football needs a very high level of intelligence and in fact most of the good football players around the league today most likely are good scientific thinkers. Not like periodic tables and stuff but during football I mean. Football is a mental game and the mental errors show on film, tv, or wherever it is football is being watched. If someone jumps off sides or their man beats them off the ball it can be the difference in a lot of different ways like a game winning touchdown or the first score in the game or whatever it may be.
I read in an article that the NFL is a ticket out for young men trying to be successful. But only 215 of 100,000 make it pro. That is 1/5th of 1 percent to make it to the league. The average length in the pros would be around 4 years and most players once out of retirement go bankrupt or were near the verge. But making it to the league is very hard considering you have to stay healthy for every season and stay in shape. It puts a lot of wear and tear on your body and a lot of people couldn’t handle it. So to make it to the pros you would have to be a super athlete so to speak.
